Words

A deadline is negative inspiration. Still, it's better than no inspiration at all.

~Rita Mae Brown
Trust only movement. Life happens at the level of events, not of words. Trust movement.

There'll Be No "Accidental" Killings Here, Please

...because I got my MedicAlert bracelet.

"Gee, we didn't know penicillin and codeine would kill her." is no longer a viable excuse.

Australia will just have to find another way to get rid of me.

Soldier Girl

Next Wednesday, at 10 am, I will become a Private in the Canadian military reserves.

How utterly ... otherworldly is that?

I suspect that the degree you know me will determine it's strangeness factor.

Cause even I still can't get my head around it.

What Kind O' Sign

...is it that next Wednesday is ALSO exactly one year since I quit smoking?

Do you think it means anything? (Other than that now basic training is slightly LESS likely to kill me than it was before?)

I've Got the Button to Prove It.

It's actually been sort of fun to find things "Canadian" to take with me. Maple cookies, tattoos, myriad cute beaver paraphernalia, stickers, beach balls, pens, keychains. And I mustn't forget the ever-popular moose.

My favorite, by far, is this little item...

button.jpg Referring, of course, to hockey (ice) and lacrosse (grass).

Lacrosse is actually Canada's official national sport and is also played on hard courts (box lacrosse), which I personally prefer. Strangely, the Aussies also play quite a bit of field lacrosse, although I believe that most people have no idea what it is.

All you really need to know is that it's cool, that I played it as a child, and that those solid rubber balls hurt. A lot.
