Words

A deadline is negative inspiration. Still, it's better than no inspiration at all.

~Rita Mae Brown
Trust only movement. Life happens at the level of events, not of words. Trust movement.

Feeling

Most people are on the world, not in it - having no conscious sympathy or relationship to anything about them - undiffused, separate, and rigiidly alone like marbles of polished stone, touching but separate.

Attitude

Long-term travel has nothing to do with demographics - age, ideology, income - and everything to do with personal outlook. Long-term travel isn't about being a college student; it's about being a student of daily life. Long-term travel isn't an act of rebellion against society; it's an act of common sense within society. Long-term travel doesn't require a massive "bundle of cash"; it requires only that we walk through the world in a more deliberate way. It's about using the prosperity and possibility of the information age to increase your personal options instead of your personal possessions. It is a prviate choice within a society that is constantly urging us to do otherwise and it begins the moment you stop making excuses, start saving money, and begin to look at maps with the narcotic tingle of possibility.

Aspiring

A lot of us first aspired to far-ranging travel and exotic adventure early in our teens; these ambitions are, in fact, adolescent in nature, which I find an inspiring idea. . . Thus, when we allow ourselves to imagine as we once did, we know, with a sudden jarring clarity, that if we don't go right now, we're never going to do it. And we'll be haunted by our unrealized dreams and know that we have sinned against ourselves gravely.

One For Vanessa
